Expository Outline and Paragraph
Why does style matter to people?
Every person has their own style and it matters to them for many reasons. Whether it's the way they carry themselves in the clothes they wear, everyone’s style reflects something about themselves. It may reflect that they are trying to blend in or to hide, but it could also reflect that they want to stand out or boost their confidence. For example, solid colors and avoiding eye contact are a few characteristics of more timid personalities. On the other hand, extroverted personalities may lean toward bolder styles and colors, and wilder facial expressions. Another major thing style reflects is a person’s creativity. Creativity is mixing and matching outfits to perfection and experimenting with paint and t-shirts. Creativity is coming up with a new handshake with every friend and finding things and people you like. Style doesn’t just apply to clothes. Style is everything that makes you different than other people; everything that makes you special.

Why does Style Matter?
Why do people put so much time and effort into their style, only to discard it later? Style is an inconstant thing, as it grows and develops over time. Everyone has a different style, yet it presents itself in different ways from person to person. Style can refer to the manner in which someone dresses, the way they think, or how they carry themselves. Therefore, a person’s style reflects who they are and affects who they want to be. Style affects people physically, mentally, and emotionally.
One way style affects people’s lives is physical. This may seem obvious, for a person’s clothing and appearance are physical things. But, physical objects can have large influences on our daily lives. Clothes can have a good physical impact. They can encourage creativity and reveal new talents, such as fashion design. Yet external items such as clothes can lead to internal problems such as materialism and jealousy. In our culture, clothing tells stories of social status and wealth. People can get caught up in this culture and begin to only find pleasure in items. Clothing trends are constantly changing, and many find the need to keep up. But a person’s style doesn’t have to be the most popular or special, it should just be what makes them happy.
The way people view themselves mentally is another important aspect of their style. The way someone dresses and others’ responses connect with how they perceive themselves. For example, a well-loved shirt and a favorite pair of pants can make anyone comfortable and happy with their looks. But, if another individual makes rude remarks towards the special shirt, it might ruin the other person’s day. What is seen on the outside of others leads to judgment and comparison, mental ways of putting yourself or others down. Certain clothing styles and appearances do speak some about the individual and their interests. Still, they cannot tell about the person on the inside, and what truly makes them unique.
Emotions and the way people feel affect their style and what it means to them. This can be negative because as mentioned before, some individuals feel self-doubt about their style and who they are. It is important to remember that style doesn’t make up a person, it is just a very small part of one. On the other hand, you may have heard quotes about dressing comfortably and confidently. Clothing that makes people feel secure can boost self-confidence in rather shy or timid personalities. If you feel comfortable, you are more likely to forget about your looks and your surroundings, and enjoy what comes next in life.
Style displays what people are like and affects their lives. There are good things about it, and there are bad things. But most importantly, style highlights differences and what makes a person special, but it cannot show who people truly are and how they are truly feeling. Therefore, remember that while style may play a big role in your life, don’t let it take over. Instead, focus on the good in people and what is on the inside, instead of what is on the outside.

Why does Style Matter?
Why do people put so much time and effort into their style, only to discard it later? Style is an inconsistent thing, as it grows and develops over time. For example, the sequined and brightly colored clothes of your youth are probably not something you would even consider wearing now. Everyone has a different style, yet it presents itself in different ways from person to person. In my life, they have encouraged creativity and revealed new talents of mine, such as fashion design. Yet external items such as clothes can lead to internal problems such as materialism and jealousy. Throughout history, clothing has told stories of social status and wealth in our culture. Desmond Morris, a published sociobiologist, quotes, “ It’s impossible to wear clothes without transmitting social signals”. Many people have gotten caught up in this culture to only find pleasure in items. Clothing trends are constantly changing, and it is difficult to keep up. But a person’s style doesn’t have to be the most popular or special, it should just be what makes them happy.
The way people view themselves mentally is another important aspect of their style. The way someone dresses and others’ responses connect with how they identify themselves and how they think (enclothed cognition). Dov Charney, CEO of American Apparel, confirms this and adds, “[Fashion is an] expression of how one wishes to be perceived”. For example, a well-loved shirt and a favorite pair of pants can make anyone comfortable and happy with their looks. But, speaking from experience, if another individual makes rude remarks towards the special shirt, it might ruin the other person’s day.
