Artist Statement For my wire sculpture, I created a small wire palm tree with several leaves. The cardboard sculpture I created was an abstract tree with many inserted leaves. My final sculpture was a colorful geometric mask with a cardboard backing. The inspiration for my mask artwork was from Wassily Kandinsky's "Color Study. Squares with Concentric Circles". I also created a sculpture with many colorful concentric circles, but in different colors and placements, and mine was three-dimensional. I really enjoyed this unit because it allowed me to try out many new methods of sculpture that I had never used. I am very proud of my mask and how the surface turned out. I could have improved on getting my pieces to connect better in my wire and cardboard sculptures, because they fell off several times.
